Building Maintenance Technician

Reporting to the plant manager, the building maintenance technician is responsible for physical maintenance and safety of the building. Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining the physical integrity of the building through general maintenance and up-keep of the property
  • Carrying out the tasks of interior and exterior maintenance of the building
  • Perform various tasks to building maintenance (replace light bulbs, minor repairs to doors, windows, locksmithing, minor domestic plumbing and electrical work) as needed
  • Respond to daily service calls
  • Perform preventative maintenance and regular maintenance
  • Perform in equipment safety improvements
  • Regulation of equipment as well as installation of some small equipment
  • Maintain a clean shop floor and work area
  • Welcoming subcontractors and passing on company safety instructions
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, plus trade training and/or certificate in general building maintenance
  • Ideally 2 years’ experience in a building maintenance role and practical experience in the manufacturing sector; food plant experience considered an asset
  • Proven mechanical skills
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical and other building systems and equipment
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback and clarification
  • Must be willing to work shift, be available for on-call/standby and emergency callouts as they arise
  • Must strictly adhere to Health and Safety polices including wearing required PPE
  • Demonstrate autonomy and initiative
  • Has the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Has the ability to make decisions and solve problems
  • Comfortable working at heights
