The beginnings

With his extensive experience as plant manager at La Biscuiterie Charest in Quebec City, François Leclerc decides to launch his own company in 1905.

François Leclerc dutifully makes his cookies at the back of the family home on Arago Street in Quebec City. The beginnings are modest, but the freshness and especially the great taste of the young company's products quickly conquer the palates and hearts of Quebecers.

The second generation

The second generation of Leclercs begins working for the company in 1917. Inspired by the determination of his father, Donat Leclerc seeks to develop the business. The company expands considerably over the following years.

Transfer of activities

1931 marked a very important milestone in the evolution of Leclerc. Following a fire, which destroyed the Arago Street building, management decided to relocate its operations to nearby St-Vallier Street in Quebec City. In 1938, Donat Leclerc becomes president of the company.

A motivated third generation

In 1955, Jean-Robert Leclerc, Donat's son, joins the Leclerc team. Over the years, he occupies many positions in the company and becomes president in 1971.

In full expansion

In the 80s and 90s, Leclerc’s reputation grows in Quebec's agrifood industry. In 1986, the company makes its first move outside the old city and establishes a new facility in the industrial park in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures. In 1994, Leclerc opens another facility in Hawkesbury, Ontario, then in 1996 a second facility in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures. The company does not stop there, subsequently acquiring Nutri-Art of Quebec City. In memory of the company founder, the city of St-Augustin-de-Desmaures names its industrial park after François Leclerc in 2004.

Leclerc goes on to acquire two plants in United States, one in Pennsylvania in 2002 and another in Tennessee in 2008. In addition to its six state-of-the-art facilities, the company also opens Musée L’Aventure Leclerc, an agrifood discovery centre that allows visitors to discover all aspects of the industry.
